EMERGING ARTISTIC LEADERS COHORT  

 

About the Emerging Artistic Leaders Cohort at Jungle Theater: 

The Jungle Theater’s Artistic Cohort is a new leadership model bridging the divide between theater leadership and artists by fostering growth, providing mutual aid, expanding the diversity and range of voices shaping the future of the Jungle.  

Salary and Benefits 

$850/month (34 hours at $25/hr), paid as employee (which accrues unemployment and social security) 

 PLUS: 

  • Ownership of the work they create while under contract – NOT work-for-hire situation. 

  • Office space – desk, wireless fiber internet, copier/scanner access, meeting space 

  • Rehearsal or Reading space 

  • Access to our prop and costume stock 

  • Access to storage space for gear 

  • Use of our cargo van 

  • Fiscal sponsorship for grant applications and grant-writing support 

  • Help on crafting their own contracts (or other business/admin help as needed) 

  • Complimentary tickets to Jungle productions, discounted tickets to guest productions 

  • Access to Jungle resources and connections through TCG, MCN, BOLD, etc.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

Strategic and Operational Support 

  • Aid Artistic Director in planning for the future of the company – Strategic planning, Board meetings as needed 

  • Aid Artistic Director in season planning 

  • Attend 1 staff meeting per month (more as available) 

  • Attend Artistic Committee meetings quarterly / Board meetings as available (at least 1 per year) 

  • Serve as panel for incoming cohort candidates with AD & MD 

  • Coordinate/sit in on general auditions with SM & AD (as needed) 

 Marketing and Engagement 

  • Interview artistic team for each project for marketing/engagement (Cohort Interviews) 

  • Coordinate with marketing on ideas/timeline 

  • Assist with publicity efforts 

Artistic Support and Expansion 

  • Lead in producing special events/readings as appropriate 

  • Read and research new play scripts / playwrights / direct new work projects 

  • Manage opportunities for artists to come see dress rehearsal, previews 

  • Complementary programming as appropriate 

  • Jungle space available for personal projects (as needed / depending on calendar of event) 

  • Teach and contribute to workshops as appropriate 

  • Work with partner organizations in talkbacks and engagement opportunities for shows 

Development and External Relations 

  • Assist with fundraiser as needed (Gala) 

  • Contribute content of artistic grants as appropriate 

  • Coordinate with Development on ideas/timeline 

  • Donor meetings/asks - representative at events, as appropriate  

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY: 

  • 18 or older 

  • Currently residing in the Twin Cities metro area 

  • An individual working in any performance art or theater related discipline 

  • An artist with a strong interest in arts leadership

  2. ARTISTIC NARRATIVE: Attach a pdf written description (2500 characters max) that encompasses:

    1. Your chosen theater discipline

    2. Your reasons for making it

    3. Your interest in being an emerging leader in the performing arts

  3. SUPPORTING MATERIALS: Please provide: 

    1. Artist resume/CV  

    2. Artist work samples. Options include:

      •  1-5 images and/or

      • 1 audio or video sample (2 min max) and/or

      • 1 paragraph of self-assessment by artists and producers in lieu of visual/audio materials  

Selection Process + Review Criteria: 

  • Applicant deadline August 11, 5:00pm 

  • Round 2 selected applicants notified for meeting requests August 16 

  • Round 2 applicant meetings with finalists August 21 and August 22 

  • Selected artists notified by August 28  

  • Publicly announce selected artists September 1

  • Artistic and collaborative experience 

  • Leadership interest and capacity
